Thoughts from my walk
On a rain drenched day
In a giant sodden wood
All to myself
And of course the dog
A perfect place
The perfect day
Except my mind races, in a rage
At nothing, there’s no one here to rant about
All the world’s injustice then
Now self-pity, washes over me
F**k the whole human race
While I am in this place
I want to scream and shout
And bawl
To let it all out
The silence stops me
This wonderful stillness
Dripping
Rain falling, pouring
The dog panting, shaking water from her oily coat
Well fed and cared for, loved
Enjoying freedom, the air, the rain, exercise
A distant train rumbles by
Birds and wildlife hunkered down
Half the world is starving
No toilets, medicine or clean water
The other half is doing all it can
To preserve its own greedy, wasteful systems
A tolerant caring country
That’s where I live
Or so I had been told, a thousand times growing up
I don’t think its true
Not no more
Opinions, hidden behind closed doors
Politicians desperate to get the tone right
Saying the right thing
It’s all baloney
We watch night after night, day after day people drowning, dying trapped in trucks
Speak out, you tolerant, caring people
Don’t wait for leadership, it might not come
They have their own agendas
Or, just sit watching children die
People drown in the Mediteranean sun
Is it right
No its an outrage
But we have enough problems of our own
Don’t we?
People fleeing war is our problem
Always was
Always is
Dont be distracted, there are differnet kinds of migrants
They didn’t tell you, you didn’t know!
Crap excuses
I think they’ve been used before
A time or two
Around our world
Sometimes
Things are more important
Than our precious little island state
With its borders that need protecting
At all costs
At what cost
Our national pride!
So what am I doing
Well nothing much
Just walking around a wood in the rain
Shooting my mouth off to myself
Oh and the long-suffering dog
